Its time I explore the "Foodie" side of me I suppose, so here I am with my very first cafe review in my blog. Life here in Kuala Lumpur is quite busy these days with very less time and inspirations for my writings. After all day of work I get too tired or feel too lazy to write. Other day I was watching back to back SATC(Sex and the City) episodes on a lazy sunday afternoon when an idea pop out in my head. Like our most inspiring character Carrie Bradshaw I thought I should also starting visiting the cafes around the city and get real inspirations for my stories. So it was a off day on wednesday and hence I dragged the man of the house from the bed as well as from the house literally to the most popular and hyped cafe in town, Antipodean Cafe in Bangsar. Well as you know from my previous post that now I am a frequent visitor to this little town in KL, i.e., Bangsar as it has got quite a number of reputed and lovely restaurants, pubs and cafes.
When I step into the cafe for the very first time to have breakfast I was surprised to see so much crowd.Luckily we did not have to wait much and got our seats in a cozy table outside. They have got seating arrangements both inside and outside of the cafe, but as it was early morning and the day was quite windy we preferred seating outside and enjoy the weather. The place was quite full and busy when we step in, it was around 10 am. People were standing in queues to get a table and it kept on increasing. We were asked to select our food from the huge range of items written over in a big black board. We asked whether there is any other way we can see the options, the waiter boy provided was with a wifi password slip and asked to see the menu online from Antipodean's website as they do not have any hard copy of menu cards, we chose the online option.I was quite confused as well as overwhelmed also to find such a wide variety of food menus. I found it very unique.Another unique thing was their lime water servings instead of plain water. They provide big glass bottles of lime water to every tables. They serve breakfast till 11 A.M. then after that you can select from their "After 11 A.M." menu. You can also visit this place for brunches as they have got wide range of foods, drinks and desserts options all throughout the day.
We chose their famous Big Breakfast and Scrambled Egg Salmon on Toast followed by Lattes.Big breakfast contained your choice of bacon or sausage in chicken/pork/beef, scrambled eggs, brown bread toast, a hash brown and mushrooms. My better half is quite a "fishy" person, so he chose to have Scrambled Egg Salmon which contained eggs mixed with salmon, brown bread toasts and Broccoli.
Big Breakfast was delicious with all the food items cooked to perfection, I am not a very big fan of mushrooms honestly but I ended up having them all because of the taste and the way they cooked it. I had this kind of mouth watering breakfast after a very long time. Salt an Pepper were less to my taste so I had to add them, a lots of them rather and I took Chilli sauce for my chicken sausage,it was good, really good. Hash brown was perfectly fried, no hard crumbs nothing and scrambled egg was my favourite item in the plate.Enjoyed every bit of it.
I have also tasted Scrambled Egg Salmon, found it delicious too. Although I could not differentiate the taste of salmon and eggs separately as it was mixed so well with loads of tomatoes but I did get the smell of salmon in it. The brown bread toast with butter just enhanced the taste.
Coffees they serve you without sugar, you have to add it separately. They provide brown sugar to be added. I found the lattes more on the bitter side, If you are not that caffeine addicted and can go without coffee in breakfast then you can order any mocktails, shakes or teas from their wide range of drinks menu other than coffee, as it kind of a little expensive side and is not that good.
So for the Cafe lovers I can say that if you have not tried this place yet, please go and try once at least, you will definitely going to have good food and good memories. For travellers who are visiting KL for their vacations should definitely give it try if have enough time and is visiting Bangsar, then its a must go. For me, yes of course I am going back there, sooner or later, if not for breakfast its surely for their wide range of wines, desserts and I am yet to try my favourite banana pan cakes there.
Alun Evans is currently running this cafe, who is mainly based in Malaysia. Apart from Malaysia, they have also got chains in Indonesia and Japan.Well this is a cafe in a well populated place in Kuala Lumpur, serving wide range of breakfast and brunch menus in "antipodean" style.
